Surviving Wintertime Skin

Ah yes, winter in Minnesota. Even though it seems to be a more mild winter, your skin will be at its most delicate. The switch from the cold air outside to the warm/hot air inside can damage the skin's natural defense barrier. This means we end up with dry, itchy skin - especially so for those who deal with conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

In order to survive the winter skin care blues, we need to start with a gentle cleanser. Avoid "soap" cleansers altogether. Instead, opt for products that have the words "gentle" or "moisturizing" on the label.

Speaking of which: Moisturizer is THE cornerstone of skin care. Lighter lotions may not be enough for the extreme dryness that come with the temperature swings. For the body, try products using shea butter, or other products with a heavier, buttery, goodness. Try to moisturize right after a (lukewarm) shower, as these products help to seal the moisture into the skin. For the face, you'll want to ditch the lightweight summer products, and purchase something more substantial to help lock in moisture.

If you need help choosing the right product for your skin, have no fear. At Pebble Spa, we have a large assortment of cleansers, moisturizers, serums, and more to help

combat the dense chill of winter.
